Vulnerabile is a painting from the Homeland Security Series. It depicts a typical Roman apartment building, probably from the 19th century, set against a sky in which storm clouds gather. Silhouetted against the clouds is an F-16 Fighter Jet, an iconic image I have used in several paintings. The contrast of the beautiful dwelling with a jet bomber symbolizes the fragility of our infrastructure. The last time I saw this building, on a previous trip to Rome, there was no threat of war. Now my perception has changed -- this building, which looked so steadfast to me before, now appears vulnerable.
